Action for the Benefit of Children and the Build Malawi project...
The Build Malawi Project is now finished! We finished the Second Phase of construction in December 2008 and had a very successful inauguration ceremony on the 3rd October 2008. Chisala Full Primary School was opened by His Excellency, The British High Commissioner, Mr Richard Wildash.
The school is now starting its second year on the 7th January 2009 and will be enrolling another 200 odd children, to add to its current 300. The government has given us three qualified teachers and we are expecting two more this January, 2009. The school also has a beautiful library with an extensive book collection thanks to a number of schools in the UK that participated in a book drive. In 2009 we will be installing solar panels for the library so that it has light for study and can also power a TV/ DVD player that will greatly aid in education. We have been kindly donated some laptops as well so we can promote IT Skills amongst the older children.
For now we are closing down our online donation facility but we will be setting up a trust later this year to help for ongoing maintenance and support for the school, as well as helping provide secondary school fees for Chisala students. We will keep you posted on this in our newsletters and you will be able to find recent pictures in Gallery 12 in our Gallery page.
Thank you to all our supporters, who are too many to list here but you know who you are. They include many fabulous individuals, UK Trusts, UK Schools, Milton Keynes Rotary Club, World Challenge UK, CCAP church in Malawi and some UK businesses. A big thank you to Andrew Smith who did our website and newsletters. There are lots of exciting developmental projects happening in Malawi so please see our Links page to see other organisations operating out there.
We will be emailing quarterly updates on the school’s progress which I hope you’ll be interested in reading. They will be posted on the website on the News page, but if you would like to be added onto the list then please email Tanya at buildmalawi@hotmail.co.uk.
Thanks again!
