Donations...
Hello! Thanks for coming! There are a number of ways that you can make a donation, whether large or small!
1. JUST GIVING
The easiest way to do so is via our own donations page on JustGiving http://www.justgiving.com/buildmalawi/donate. This is the most secure process for you to use your credit or debit card to make a one-off or monthly donation.
Please note that in order to get the most of of this service we would greatly appreciate if UK tax-payers could please select the Gift Aid option. To learn more about Gift Aid please click here.
Our fundraising page on JustGiving
http://www.justgiving.com/buildmalawi/raisemoney enables you to create a personal fundraising page for an event or occasion on our behalf.
You can do anything from sports events to dress-up days at the office - visit the JustGiving website for more tips and information.
Examples of what your donations can buy
- £5 will buy a bag of cement. Around 160 bags are needed for a school block
- £30 would buy a good quality bicycle
- £310 would buy a clean, hygienic double pit-latrine
- £350 would buy a urinal block
- £500 would pay the salary of a teacher for a year
- £2,500 will build a teachers house
- £3,000 will build a water pump and provide maintenance training
- £3,500 will build a double classroom school block
2. SET UP A DIRECT DEBIT
To give a regular donation to ABC and the Build Malawi project specifically you can set up a direct debit through your bank. Please email us at malawi@buildmalawi.org or alice@buildmalawi.org if you would like our bank details for this purpose and we will provide you with the information required.
3. SEND A CHEQUE
If you would like to send a donation by cheque please make it payable to Build Malawi Project and send it to:
Build Malawi Project, 201 East Dulwich Grove, London SE22 8SY
If you are a UK tax-payer then please download this Gift Aid Declaration form, and send it along with your donation. Gift Aid allows us to collect 28p on every Pound donated as a UK charity, for more information please see this page.
4. CORPORATIONS/TRUSTS
CORPORATIONS - Some companies have ‘payroll giving’ (a Government initiative) where employees give a monthly donation to a chosen charity on pay-day. To find out more visit this page. Also, if you would like to do a sponsored event for us then please contact Alice - we will be happy to hear your suggestions!
TRUSTS - Many trust funds and family charity funds seek organised projects to invest in, so please do consider us!
5. DONATIONS IN KIND
This is an important part of the project too since we will need some donations in kind to start up some of the important programmes for the kids and adults alike.
- SEWING MACHINES: Functional and manual
- BOOKS: teaching aids, language/English books, story books, fiction, health books…of any kind! From simple to high level
- VISUAL AIDS: Maps/Atlases/Dictionaries/Wall charts
- MANUAL TOOLS: for building and making up tool boxes
- BIKES and Puncture kits
- OLD MOBILE PHONES
- OLD COMPUTERS
- LAPTOPS
- BAGS and handbags
- SPORTS EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS
- TRAINERS
- OLD RADIOS: tapes/story tapes
Solar Power
We are very keen to try and bring electricity to Chisala school through use of solar energy. If anyone has contacts in this area then please get in touch as this is a very important vision for us in the near future.
Containers
We want to try and obtain a 20-foot container in order to transport learning materials and other charitable items from the UK to Malawi. It would also serve as an invaluable storage space for our building projects. Please contact Tanya if you have any information in regards to this.
6. DONATIONS FOR SCHOOL FEES
It costs approximately £30 to send a youth to secondary school in the area. There is no secondary school nearby Chisala and youths have to travel far or live with relatives. So far, ABC has been approached by three youths regarding secondary education, although this number is sure to rise.
If you are interested in sponsoring a youth, then please donate online at Justgiving with the heading ‘fees’. Tanya can provide you with a breakdown of costs and the name of the person you will be sponsoring. It is important that we also support higher education as these people will be the key to Malawi’s future.
